DB Cargo Italy S.r.l. – the gateway between Italy and the world
DB Cargo Italy S.r.l. is managed by DB Cargo and owns a 60 percent share in NORDCARGO S.r.l. then DB Cargo Italia s.r.l.
DB Cargo has set out to offer customers transports from a single source – the same standards customers have come to expect from road haulage.
And DB Cargo Italy S.r.l. is responsible for achieving that goal in Italy. It links DB Cargo Deutschland AG, the largest and highest-volume rail freight company in Europe, and DB Cargo Italia S.r.l., which carries out transports in Italy on behalf of DB Cargo.
DB Cargo Italy S.r.l. has represented DB Cargo in Italy since 2002 (the company operated under the name Railion Italia S.r.l. prior to 2002). It grew out of Strade Ferrate del Mediterraneo (SFM).
In January 2009, Railion Italia S.r.l. acquired 49% of the shares in NORDCARGO S.r.l. held by Ferrovienord S.p.A. (now FNM S.p.A.). A year later, in January 2010, it acquired the majority share in NORDCARGO, then DB Cargo Italia S.r.l. by purchasing an additional 11% of the shares from Ferrovienord S.p.A. In March 2010, all operational resources and staff were transferred to NORDCARGO S.r.l. then DB Cargo Italia, which has handled all transport tasks for the DB Cargo network in Italy since that time.
